Chamber High School Mentorship Program

During the spring of 2022, the Arcata Chamber of Commerce offered an 8-week mentorship program to seven seniors at Arcata High School. Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE) Community Outreach Coordinator Jim Ritter serves on the Arcata Chamber Board of Directors as well as the College Connect program. His work at HCOE aligned with our Chamber’s goals. The program was co-taught by Johanna Mauro of Arcata High School. This program is designed to help seniors make the transition from high school to college, employment, and future careers. A key focus of the Arcata Chamber’s strategic plan is workforce development and mentoring students from local schools. Using the Chamber’s membership network, we helped students explore career options and higher education options.

It was a huge success in helping students build confidence for the transition from high school graduation to pursuing their preferred careers. As a result, the Chamber gained a stronger engagement with our next generation and potential future leaders.
